Bench n°1

Two benches, exploring the duality between hand and machine work. Enjoying the possibilities brought by exotic and endemic hardwood.

Those benches are inspired by the Console n°1 and the idea of elevating the top of the piece, as to create an intermediary space. Thus allowing for different uses of the bench at the same time.

The bottom part, legs and rails, is assembled by castle joints (interlocking double bridal joint). The technic difficulty lies in the way the top is joined to the feet. The central part, in exotic wood, needs to be securely jointed so that the possible counterweight created by someone sitting on the edge of the bench, does not create too much of a flex.
